Sally grew up in Edinburgh. After graduating from Oxford in modern languages, she spent 12 years in Europe and South America. On returning to Glasgow with her family, she worked in the Scottish juvenile justice system for 20 years, as a lecturer at Glasgow University training members of the Children’s Panel, and later as the first chair of the Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration.
She was a non-executive trustee and latterly chair of the Yorkhill NHS Trust and a member of the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board where she took a particular interest in the rights of children and young people within healthcare.
Among many voluntary activities relating to children, she has been a trustee of Save the Children UK and has served as a governor of a number of schools.
Sally recently completed a PhD in Education at Glasgow University.
