Martin Dorchester, Includem’s newly announced Chief Executive reflects on his reasons for joining Includem.
I am really delighted to be joining Includem as Chief Executive. I have known of Includem for many years by reputation as an organisation firmly dedicated to achieving positive change for young people and with a justified position as a sector leader in innovative approaches to provide support.
I know I am joining an organisation in a strong position and that you all bring an enormous amount of experience to what you do. I hope that I can contribute to that, bringing my experience of business and strategic development to our growth strategy so we can continue to meet the needs of more young people across Scotland.
You may be thinking ‘why would the Chief Executive of Calmac want to work at Includem’. It’s a fair question!
I put myself forward for this post because I know what a difference positive relationships and the mantra of ‘never giving up’ can have. As a young man I grew up in a challenging and difficult environment. I got into trouble many times but was fortunate that people in my school and my community saw the potential in me and stuck with me through some difficult periods.
I see that same passion in what Includem does and that is something I will be proud to be a part of.
You are making a huge impact on the future life chances of young people but there is more we can do. I want to build on what you are already achieving but I am also ambitious for our future.
Only a special organisation like Includem could have drawn me away from my current post and I am looking forward to meeting you all in the weeks and months ahead and working together to fulfil our mission and purpose.
