includem has over 20 years’ experience in supporting young people involved with the youth and adult justice systems in Scotland. In fact, when includem was first established back in 2000, this was our main focus. Since then, we have supported hundreds of young people and their families to navigate the justice system and break cycles of offending behaviour.
We know that the justice system can be scary and confusing for both young people and their families. There are many different routes to and through the justice system, and we are there to support children, young people and families the whole way, providing practical guidance and emotional support at all times.
Ultimately, we want to avoid having young people from entering the justice system at all. We are skilled and experienced at early intervention work, supporting those children and young people who are beginning to behave in ways that could be considered ‘risky’ and are perhaps starting to come to the attention of the police.
We work with young people to develop their consequential thinking, using proven approaches and restorative practices. This helps young people to understand the impact of their actions and the factors driving their behaviour, allowing us to work together to identify ways to overcome or minimise them.
Our includem justice services include the following:
- Diversion from prosecution
- Early and Effective Intervention (EEI)
- Prevention - Supported bail
