News & Stories

We believe that all children and young people should have a voice. Behind every child or young person we work with there is a story, which they are best placed to tell. They might not have decided the beginning, or the middle, but they can re-write the ending.

The Story of the Simply Scran Cookbook

Food can bring people, families and communities together.

However, pressure is mounting as we grapple with the rising cost of living. Children, young people and families we support have voiced how food is a pressing concern – in conversations with includem workers, from views highlighted in our Needs Now local elections manifesto (2022) and in our wider research.

Includem believes that in one of the richest countries in the world, no child should be too hungry to learn, no parent or carer should have to skip meals to prioritise feeding their children, and no member of our community should have to worry where their next meal will come from.

To support families, we want to compile the Simply Scran Cookbook, filled with recipes that can be made for under £5, which we will launch later this Autumn. While this is a small step in the wider support needed, we hope this will help anyone looking to share a meal or snack on a budget.

You can get involved in the Simply Scran Cookbook by donating your own £5 and under recipe. This could be a breakfast, lunch, dinner or even a pudding and snack. It is our intention that our cookbook will also be made available to purchase later with all proceeds going to our Young Person’s fund.

Due to copyright concerns, we cannot accept recipes that you have copied from a cookbook or website unless you have made a meaningful change to that recipe (unless it’s a classic recipe like Spaghetti Bolognese!).

If you’d like to donate a recipe for us to share with the children, young people and families we support you can do so by emailing your recipe to publicaffairs@inlcudem.co.uk.

This cookbook wouldn’t be possible without our colleagues and the children, young people and families we support, who have already contributed their recipes! Thank you.

We’re in this together!
