This week includem joined 22 partner organisations in calling for an uplift to the Scottish Child Payment to £40 a week and for bold action to tackle Child Poverty in Scotland.
We recognise that progress has been made in reducing the number of children in poverty and we want to see the Scottish Government increase their support and investment, to meet their Child Poverty Targets.
Every day we support families across the country to access essentials – from food parcels to household items. Every day we see the devastating effect that poverty has on children and families. This includes poor physical and mental health, poor educational outcomes, lack of opportunities, and what we call a deprivation of hope.
Our recent ‘Beyond the Budget’ report captures some of the voices of families we support.
We are grateful that the First Minister has responded to the letter and acknowledges the work of organisations such as includem in providing whole family support to tackle child poverty.
The upcoming Programme for Government is an opportunity for the Scottish Government to commit to Action and we are hopeful that the work we do to amplify the voices of children, young people and families will lead to tangible change.
