“With SQA results announced today, young people across Scotland should be proud of all they have achieved during this uniquely challenging time, regardless of the result. We should all celebrate their hard work, as well as the vital support provided by teachers and families. Congratulations!
“However, it is extremely disheartening to see young people from Scotland’s most deprived backgrounds being disadvantaged once more, with a significant and persistent attainment gap between the wealthiest and poorest students.
“From includem’s day-to-day work with children, young people, and families, we know that many of the barriers to learning and attainment are not created in school – and they will not be dismantled through in-school solutions alone. It is vital that community-based, whole family support is made available to all families as and when they need it, that the voices of children and young people (particularly those who are disengaged) are brought to the forefront, and efforts to tackle child poverty are urgently accelerated.”
