“Small moments, big impact”: Children’s charity calls for support this Christmas
A children’s and whole family support charity, includem, is asking the public and local businesses to help lift the weight of poverty this winter.
The continued impact of the cost-of-living crisis means countless parents and carers are facing an impossible choice: keep the heating on or try to give their children a Christmas to remember.
Includem, the charity supporting children, young people, and their families across Scotland, is urging people to step in and help ease that burden through direct donations to its Young Person’s Fund Winter Appeal.
Tracey Stewart, Director of Services at includem, said:
“For many of the families we support, poverty isn’t just about money, it’s a constant weight they carry. It affects their confidence, their opportunities, and their ability to enjoy the simple moments.
“Our Young Person’s Fund offers some respite from this pressure. It is designed to remind children and young people that they deserve to feel seen and valued. These small offerings can lift an enormous burden, even just for a day, but those moments stay with them far longer than we often realise. It gives hope.”
Returning for its third year, the charity’s festive mascot Radha fronts the Radha’s Little Helpers campaign. Every pound donated goes directly towards essentials, gifts, and special experiences for children, young people and families the charity supports.
From warm winter clothing and books to the joy of visiting Santa or seeing a pantomime for the very first time, these gestures create memories that last a lifetime. As one young person put it after a trip to the theatre last year: “It was the best day of my life.”
The campaign’s first year exceeded all expectations, with communities across Scotland rallying behind families in need. With the cost of living still hitting the hardest-pressed households.
Tracey continued: “Last year showed us the power of simple acts of generosity. People want to know their support is reaching families directly, and this fund makes sure it does.”
The charity is encouraging people to donate or help spread the word among colleagues, friends, and communities. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a difference.
