We believe that all children and young people should have a voice. Behind every child or young person we work with there is a story, which they are best placed to tell. They might not have decided the beginning, or the middle, but they can re-write the ending.

Louise running first half-marathon to raise vital funds for Young Person’s Fund

Includem Project Worker, Louise Davidson, will be running the EMF (Edinburgh Marathon Festival) Half Marathon on Sunday 29th May. On top of completing this physical challenge, Louise will be raising vital funds for the includem Young Person’s Fund.

Speaking to Louise, she said: “I got more into walking and running during lockdown. It wasn’t something I did much of before, but I decided I wanted to get fitter and healthier.

“I started doing a ‘Couch to 5K’ program and most days I was either getting out to do a walk or a run. I’m now at a point where I can complete a 5K run in 30 minutes.”

Louise joined the includem Aberdeen team in January 2021 before moving to join the Glasgow team this month. She will be running to raise money for the Young Person’s Fund.

“Working with children and young people was always in the back of my mind,” said Louise. “Even though I was studying science at University, I enjoyed supporting and working with children and young people through my part-time employment.

“Being at includem now is really rewarding and every day is different. It can be busy like any job but you come home at the end of the day knowing you’ve had a positive impact on the children, young people, and families that you’ve supported.

“Recently I was supporting a young person to set-up a Bank Account. That has been quite a difficult process due to COVID. Getting it sorted, helping that young person, and seeing the difference you make, that is what makes the role so rewarding.

“Having seen first-hand the benefit that the ‘Young Person’s Fund’ has for children, young people, and families, I wanted to contribute. Since I’ve joined includem the funds have been used to provide activities, gym memberships, and helping to improve children and young people’s homes. It really is about using funds to transform lives.”

Louise will run the EMF Half Marathon alongside her friend who partly encouraged her to take part.

“It’s my friend’s birthday the day of the half marathon,” added Louise. “My aim is to complete the half marathon with her. I’ve not set myself any set goal. However, if I can raise funds and tick this off my bucket list, I will be very happy.”
