We have recently written to the First Minister on the current debate in the Scottish Parliament on the impact of a National Insurance increase on public services.
You can read this letter below and if you wish to get in touch you can do so at publicaffairs@includem.co.uk
Dear First Minister
As you will know, the Scottish Government will hold a debate on the UK Government’s decision to increase the National Insurance Contributions and the impact this will have on public services.
This decision will significantly impact includem, as well as other third sector organisations who deliver public services across Scotland.
We estimate that the increase in National Insurance Contributions will cost us an additional 2-4% in payroll costs.
As outlined in our recent submission to the Social Justice and Social Security Committee, third sector organisations are already facing extreme pressures to meet the needs of children, young people and families we support and the proposed changes will have a devastating impact on our ability to deliver the transformational work families, and public sector organisations rely on.
Includem prides itself on being able to deliver support to children, young people and families 24/7/365days a year. To do this requires a large and flexible workforce. Unfortunately, the increase would potentially force us to consider any future recruitment and in the current economic climate which already sees limited funding opportunities available to the third sector, the knock-on effect will truly be devastating for children, young people and families who could benefit from our support.
We support the SCVO’s calls on the Scottish Government to ensure that grants and contracts awarded by the Scottish Government, its agencies, and other public bodies, are uplifted to meet the costs associated with changes to NICs, as well as inflationary pressures and we ask that you consider supporting this call.
We thank you in advance for your support and if you would like to discuss this further, we would welcome the opportunity to meet with you and talk about all things includem. Your office can arrange this at publicaffairs@includem.co.uk.
Yours sincerely,
Martin Dorchester – Chief Executive, includem
